"There are times when I think that the ideal library is composed solely of reference books. They are like understanding friends--always ready to meet your mood, always ready to change the subject when you have had enough of this or that."

—Donald J. Adams (b. 1924) [Maxwell Smart] American actor

Director's Message

Library Director Sara Zumwalt

Thank you for visiting the website of the Litchfield Carnegie Public Library. We are very proud of our Library, and hope we are serving the needs of all our patrons.

The Library has an extensive collection of both recreational reading and research materials for children and adults. We strive to make available the newest book releases as soon as possible, in all genres of fiction and non-fiction.

For adults we offer the latest in best selling and popular fiction as well as older titles by well known authors. We also have a large non-fiction collection with excellent sections on health, legal information, history, and home improvement.

Our children's section is bright and colorful, equipped with kid-size nooks for reading and relaxing. We have a large selection of board books for babies, picture books for the emergent reader, and many contemporary and classic novels for young readers and young adults.

For local history and genealogy buffs, the Library owns one of the largest collections of family history materials in the county. We have census and cemetery records, newspapers on microfilm, and other valuable research tools.

We offer DVDs and videocassettes for loan, as well as books on CD and cassette. We have Internet access for all patrons, filtered as required by the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA). We have a public FAX and copy machine for your needs.

I invite you to visit the Litchfield Library and experience all we have to offer you and your family.
